HB 1217 -- Business Dropout Abatement Program

Sponsor:  Dougherty

This bill creates a program of tax credits for employers who
contribute to a school dropout abatement program. Specific
amounts of credit for different types of contributions are
detailed in the bill. At-risk students or dropouts residing in
the school district as further defined by the bill are eligible
to participate in the program upon approval of the district;
other students may be recommended by the principal of the
school. Districts will establish programs and apply to the
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for approval,
supplying information annually about the number of students
participating. The department will also provide the requisite
information to the Department of Revenue.
