HB 1853 -- Paraprofessional Teaching Assistants

Sponsor:  Auer

This bill requires the departments of Elementary and Secondary
Education and Higher Education to develop a program to
facilitate paraprofessional teaching assistants in achieving
teacher certification.  State universities and community
colleges will be involved with the program.  Paraprofessionals
who work in high population, high poverty urban districts or low
population, high poverty rural districts who agree to teach for
5 years in the district after attaining certification will be
given preference in loan and forgivable loan programs for
prospective teachers.
