HB 2032 -- Physician Assistants
Sponsor: Monaco
This bill contains provisions regarding the practice of
physician assistants. The bill:
(1) Changes the definition of "supervision" to include direct,
on-site control, and working at the same office location where
the supervising physician is present and removes the authority
of the Board of Healing Arts to promulgate rules pertaining to
the proximity of practice between the physician and the
physician assistant;
(2) Prohibits physician assistants, except in emergency
situations, from performing any services or procedures described
in the physician assistant's scope of practice for new patients
unless the supervising physician has examined and evaluated the
patient and for existing patients, not without prior approval
from the supervising physician;
(3) Requires physician assistants to notify the Board of
Healing Arts when entering into physician assistant supervision
agreements with a physician; and
(4) Requires physician assistants who are acting pursuant to
standing orders and protocols issued by a physician to carry
liability insurance.
