HB 2062 -- American Sign Language

Sponsor: Lakin

This bill recognizes American Sign Language (ASL) as the native
language of many deaf Missourians and encourages its teaching
and study. Students may demonstrate proficiency as a means of
gaining academic credit as well as taking a course for academic
credit. ASL will count as a foreign language in the entrance
requirements for any institution of higher learning. The use of
qualified persons to teach ASL is required. The Missouri
Commission for the Deaf will provide guidance on the teaching of
ASL when needed and requested.
