HJR 46 -- General Assembly

Sponsor: Bartle

This proposed constitutional amendment reduces the House of
Representatives from 163 members to 105 members and increases
the Senate from 34 members to 35 members. These changes will be
effective for the 92nd General Assembly (2003-2004).

Redistricting of House and Senate districts will be done by a
single commission, selected and constituted as currently
provided for Senate redistricting. The redistricting commission
will first determine the 35 Senate districts. It will then
divide each Senate district into 3 House districts totally
contained in the Senate district. Each House district must
contain 1/3 of the population in the Senate district and be as
compact as can be.
