JOINT RESOLUTION
Submitting to the qualified voters of Missouri, an amendment to article I of the Constitution of Missouri, relating to the bill of rights, by adding thereto one new section relating to an equal rights amendment.
That at the next general election to be held in the state of Missouri, on Tuesday next following the first Monday in November, 2000, or at a special election to be called by the governor for that purpose, there is hereby submitted to the qualified voters of this state, for adoption or rejection, the following amendment to article I of the Constitution of the state of Missouri:
Section A. Article I, Constitution of Missouri, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 33, to read as follows:
Section 33. 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the state of Missouri on account of sex.
2. The general assembly of the state of Missouri shall have the power to enforce by appropriate legislation the provisions of this section.
3. Nothing in this section shall be construed to require the state of Missouri to fund abortions or recognize same sex
marriages or unions.
