REP. GLENDA KELLY
90th General Assembly
Rep. Glenda Kelly, a Democrat, represents part of Buchanan County (District 27) in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Her legislative successes include two measures passed in the 1996 session. The first provides for safer schools through the use of both alternative education courses and tougher penalties for disruptive or violent students. The second bill requires insurance policies to cover longer maternity stays for new mothers and their babies.
Rep. Kelly was a legal secretary in St. Joseph from 1960-89.
From 1991-94, Rep. Kelly was the mayor of St. Joseph and a board member for the Missouri Municipal League. She served on the St. Joseph City Council and as deputy mayor from 1986-91.
Rep. Kelly has served on the Social Welfare board; the YWCA Board; the Pony Express Association Historical board; the St. Joseph Historical Society board; the Missouri Municipal League; the founding task forces for the YWCA Women’s Abuse and Shelter; and the Second Harvest Food Bank. She also served as former president of the St. Joseph Area League of Women Voters, and is the secretary of the Women Legislators of Missouri. Rep. Kelly is a member of the Northwest Missouri Progressive Democrats; the Buchanan County Democrat Club; and the ABCD Women’s Democrat Club.
Rep. Kelly has received the James C. Kirkpatrick Good Government award given by the NWMO Preservation Association; the St. Joseph Landmarks Commission Historic Preservation Leadership award; the Alliance for Stronger Families’ Adoption and Foster Care Coalition of Missouri award; and the Western State College Distinguished Alumni award in 1998. She was also named the YWCA's Outstanding Woman of Year for 1993.
Born on June 3, 1944, Rep. Kelly is a 1989 graduate from Missouri Western State College. She resides with her husband, Dennis, in St. Joseph. They have two children, Gina Wolf and Chad Campbell and four grandchildren.
