REP. VICKY HARTZLER

90th General Assembly

Rep. Vicky Hartzler, a Republican, represents parts of Cass and Johnson counties (District 124) in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Elected to her third two-year term in 1998, Rep. Hartzler is part owner of Hartzler Equipment Company and Hartzler Farms, Inc. with her husband, Lowell, and other family members. They sell farm equipment at two locations (Harrisonville and Nevada) and operate a diversified farming operation comprised of cattle, hogs and row crops.

A 1979 graduate of Archie High School, Rep. Hartzler graduated summa cum lauded with a degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1983 and a master's degree in education from Central Missouri State University in 1992.

Rep. Hartzler was a high school and junior high vocational home economics teacher for 11 years. She served as the co-director of Belton High School's IMPACT program, and was a Natural Helpers sponsor and a track coach. During the summers of 1982 and 1983, she was a senior citizen activity director for the city of Harrisonville and developed a comprehensive recreation program for senior adults.

Rep. Hartzler is a member of the following organizations: vice president, Cass County Farm Bureau; vice president, 17th Judicial Circuit CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) Program; active member of Harrisonville Mennonite Church; Cass County Council on Aging, executive board; the Harrisonville and Pleasant Hill Chambers of Commerce; and the Missouri State Teachers Association.

Rep. Hartzler has received the following honors and awards: Individual of the Year - Harrisonville Area Chamber of Commerce; Public Servant of the Year - Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce; Missouri Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture Award (in 1996 and 1998); Missouri Assistive Technology Council Recognition Award; Outstanding Freshman Legislator for Constituent Services; Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion and the Pleasant Hill Lions Club Appreciation Awards; Dairy Council of Greater Kansas City Education Citation; and Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator.

During her terms in office, Rep. Hartzler has championed the cause of adoption by writing and passing two major adoption reform laws to strengthen and update Missouri's adoption laws. She has passed legislation protecting children from child molesters, worked for tax relief for families, and introduced legislation to improve education.

Rep. Hartzler and her husband, Lowell, have one daughter, Tiffany.
