HCS HB 1000 -- CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS CO-SPONSORS: Hosmer, Treadway COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Select Committee on Redistricting by a vote of 12 to 6. This substitute establishes 9 districts for the election of representatives to Congress beginning with election to the 108th Congress. The districts are described by census geography, counties, voting districts, and tract/blocks in accordance with the 2000 census. Districts currently in the statutes will remain in effect for any elections to the 107th Congress and will expire on January 1, 2003. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the current Congressional districts need to be revised to conform to the 2000 census. Testifying for the bill was Representative Hosmer. The committee held extensive public hearings in Kansas City, Mexico, Springfield, St. Louis, and Waynesville, with testimony by numerous citizens and public officials.
