HB 129 -- EXAMINATION OF TAXPAYER RECORDS
CO-SPONSORS: Van Zandt, Campbell
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Ways and Means by a vote of 13 to 0.
This bill prohibits the state or any county from entering into a
contract or arrangement for the examination of a taxpayer's
books and records if the compensation for the service is
contingent upon or otherwise related to the amount of tax,
interest, court cost, or penalty assessed or collected from the
taxpayer.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is needed to eliminate
tax "bounty hunters" hired by local governments. The Missouri
Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Missouri both
asked that the bill be expanded to all political subdivisions.
Testifying for the bill were Representatives Van Zandt and
Campbell; Missouri Chamber of Commerce; and Associated
Industries of Missouri.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
