HCS HB 365 -- ADOPTION
SPONSOR: Barry (Champion)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Children,
Families and Health by a vote of 14 to 0.
This substitute requires courts to expedite the placement for
adoption of children who are under the prior and continuing
jurisdiction of juvenile court. The 6-month custody requirement
prior to finalization of adoption is waived if the child is
under the prior and continuing jurisdiction of the juvenile
court and the adoptive parent is the current foster parent.
FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the intent of the bill is to
speed up the adoption process for children already under the
care of foster parents.
Testifying for the bill was Representative Champion.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
