Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 571  --  TWA FLIGHT 800 INTERNATIONAL MEMORIAL

CO-SPONSORS:  Dolan, Lowe

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government and Related Matters by a vote of 15 to 2.

This bill requires the General Assembly to appropriate $1,000
for each of the 7 Missourians who died on TWA Flight 800 on July
17, 1996.  The funds will be disbursed on the effective date of
the bill to the Families of Flight 800 Memorial Fund for the TWA
Flight 800 International Memorial in Smith Point Beach, New York.

FISCAL NOTE:  Cost to General Revenue Fund of $7,000 in FY 2002,
and $0 in FY 2003 and FY 2004.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that 7 Missouri families lost
members in the Flight 800 crash.  Other states and cities are
contributing funds.  This year marks the 5th anniversary of the
crash.  Missouri should be represented and show that it cares
about the victims.

Testifying for the bill were Representatives Dolan and Lowe;
Larry Siebert; and Helen Siebert.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
