HB 726, HCA 1 -- FIRE EDUCATION FUND CO-SPONSORS: Selby, Wagner, Ward COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0. Beginning July 1, 2002, this bill requires all revenues from the state's 3% sales tax on fireworks to be transferred to the Fire Education Fund. After June 30, 2002, the Fire Education Fund will no longer receive funds from 3% of insurance premium taxes. HCA 1 -- Changes the amount to be transferred from the fireworks sales tax to the Fire Education Fund from 3% to 0.3%. FISCAL NOTE: Loss to General Revenue Fund of $0 in FY 2002, and $1,000,684 in FY 2003 and FY 2004. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that funds are needed for fire education. These funds will help all Missouri citizens. Testifying for the bill were Representative Selby; Phil Sayer; and Missouri Fire Service Alliance.
