Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 76 -- TAMPERING WITH A JUDICIAL OFFICER

SPONSOR:  Monaco (Clayton)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 18 to 1.

This substitute expands the crime of tampering with a judicial
officer to add family court commissioners, drug court
commissioners, and juvenile court officers to the definition of
"judicial officers."

FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is necessary because
state efforts to crack down on child support delinquencies,
drug-related crimes, and juvenile crimes have been successful;
and therefore family court commissioners, drug court
commissioners, and juvenile court officers are on the front line
facing harassment.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Clayton.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
