HB 487 -- Tobacco Settlement

Co-Sponsors: Davis, Seigfreid, Shields, Hegeman

This bill establishes the Missouri Tobacco Settlement Trust Fund
in the state treasury. All moneys received from any award or
settlement between the state and tobacco product manufacturers
will be deposited in the fund.

The bill also requires that at least 25% of moneys deposited
into the trust fund and any interest earned thereon be
appropriated to the operating funds of school districts on a per
pupil basis. Up to 15% of the moneys appropriated to the
individual school district, at the district's discretion, may be
placed in the district's operating fund.

The bill also requires the Commissioner of Administration to
maintain data on receipts and expenditures from the trust fund
in electronic format and post the data on the Internet.
