HB 603 -- Alzheimer's Disease and Related Conditions

This bill designates the first Tuesday in March as Alzheimer's
Awareness Day, to be proclaimed by the Governor and recommended
to be observed through activities to increase awareness of
Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.  Within the duties of
the Division of Aging, the existing requirement to maintain a
clearinghouse for information of interest to elderly people is
expanded to include provision of up-to-date technical assistance
and specifically mentions the needs and interests of those with
Alzheimer's disease.  The information is to be maintained and
provided in consultation with agencies and institutions of
higher education with expertise in dementia care.  By January 1,
2002, the division must establish minimum dementia-specific
training requirements for employees delivering care to persons
with Alzheimer's disease or related conditions in skilled
nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, residential
care facilities, in-home care, adult daycare, independent
contractors providing direct care, hospices, and the division.
