Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 752 -- Cosmetology Licenses

This bill:

(1)  Creates a new license classification for cosmetologists to
be known as Class CB - braider.  Braiders are required to take a
course of study of at least 650 hours, with a minimum of 100
hours of classroom training before performing any acts of hair
braiding on a patron or customer of a cosmetology school;

(2)  Requires Class CH - hairdresser students to take a course
of study of at least 1,000 hours, with a minimum of 160 of
classroom training before performing any acts of hairdressing on
any patron or customer of the school;

(3)  Increases the number of hours of study Class MO -
manicurist students are required to complete from 390 to 400;

(4)  Defines the curriculum to be taught by the schools of
cosmetology for Class CB and Class CH students; and

(5)  Requires applicants for certain cosmetology licenses to
complete an apprentice program under the supervision of a
licensed cosmetologist of the following length:  for Class CA -
hairdresser and manicurist, 3,000 hours; for Class CH -
hairdresser, 2,000 hours; and for Class CB - braider, 1,300
hours.
