HB 859 -- Housing Assistance for Public School Teachers

Co-Sponsors:  Hilgemann, Gambaro, Johnson (61), Coleman, Carnahan

This bill creates the New Public School Teacher Housing Grant
Fund to support a program that awards one-time grants for newly
hired teachers in teacher shortage districts who are trying to
purchase housing in the district.  The Department of Elementary
and Secondary Education determines whether a district has a
teacher shortage.  Eligible districts must pledge a 20% match
for state funds.  Maximum awards are $1,600 in state grant funds
to be matched by $400 in district funds for the closing on the
sale of a house.
