REP. SHARON SANDERS BROOKS

91st General Assembly

Rep. Sharon Sanders Brooks, a Democrat, represents part of Jackson County (District 37) in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Elected to the House in a special election held in April 2000, Rep. Sanders Brooks is an historical consultant. Formerly she was a civil rights investigator, investigating employment and fair housing discrimination complaints in Kansas City. She was also a journalist in the Kansas City area.

Rep. Sanders Brooks is a member of the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History, Inc. (ASALH), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the National Political Congress of Black Women, and the Missouri Historical Society. She is a volunteer for the 18th & Vine Museums and attends St. James United Methodist Church.

A graduate of Francis L. Cardozo High School in Washington D.C., Rep. Sanders Brooks attended Bennett College and received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from The American University in 1983.

Born July 17 in Lynchburg, Va., Rep. Sanders Brooks lives in Kansas City.
