HB 1935 -- MUNICIPAL TRANSIENT GUEST TAX SPONSOR: Seigfreid COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 15 to 0. This bill allows the City of Marshall to impose, upon voter approval, a room tax of not more than 5% per night. This tax will be in addition to any other tax authorized by law. The tax will be used by the city solely for the promotion of tourism. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will help the City of Marshall promote tourism.
