Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 1001 -- SHERIFFS' RETIREMENT FUND

SPONSOR: Mathewson (Crump)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Retirement by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill requires any county and the City of St. Louis that has
elected or elects in the future to become members of the
Sheriffs' Retirement Fund to participate in the funding of the
system. The system is funded by the assessment and collection of
$3 for each civil and criminal court case filed in all
jurisdictions except the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and
Jackson County.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that Jackson County and St. Louis
City are in the retirement system but cannot fund it because they
were not authorized to collect the court fee. The bill will only
make them equal to all other counties.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Mathewson; and Sheriffs'
Retirement System.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
