Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SCS SB 1071 -- WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

SPONSOR: Klindt (Lawson)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Agriculture by a vote of 25 to 0.

This substitute brings Missouri's Weights and Measure Law into
conformity with the Uniform Weights and Measure Law drafted by
the National Conference on Weights and Measures.

Current provisions which assess a penalty of 1% per month on the
unpaid balance of fees for inspection of measuring devices and a
$100 penalty for fees 90 days or later are removed.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that revision of the penalty
provisions allows persons with violations to spend their money on
the remedy rather than the penalty.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Klindt.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
