Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SB 1251 -- DESIGNATING NEXT OF KIN

SPONSOR:  Gibbons (Monaco)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Judiciary by a vote of 16 to 0.

This substitute provides, for purposes of Chapter 333, RSMo, only
(Embalmers and Funeral Directors), that a person can designate
any person to be their next of kin by a verified written
instrument, including a will or trust.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary to protect
funeral directors from liability in certain situations.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Gibbons; and Missouri
Funeral Directors Association.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
