Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2092 -- American Sign Language Courses

Co-Sponsors:  Reynolds, Froelker

This bill requires that courses in American Sign Language offered
by public elementary and secondary schools be recognized as
foreign language courses, that credit be given for these courses
if the school gives academic credit for foreign languages, and
that these courses count toward satisfaction of foreign language
requirements in the elementary or secondary school.  Credit can
be earned by taking a course or by demonstrating proficiency.
The Commission for the Deaf will provide assistance on
development and teaching of these courses.
