Rep. Joan Barry, a Democrat, represents part of South St. Louis County (District 100) in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Rep. Barry was elected to the House of Representatives in March of 1996 in a special election, re-elected in November 1996, and again in 1998 and 2000.
Rep. Barry currently serves as Majority Caucus secretary in the House and is a member of the Women Legislators of Missouri. Rep. Barry also serves as a state director of Women in Government and regional director of the National Order of Women Legislators. She is a member of the South County Chamber of Commerce, the Oakville Lions Club, the DePaul Alumna Association, the Missouri Historical Society, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
In addition to her legislative duties, Rep. Barry works as a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. She works in the area of obstetrics and gynecology. Rep. Barry is a member of the Missouri Nurses Association, first vice president of Nurses for Newborns, and an advisory board member of Parents as Teachers, a member of the technical advisory committee on the Quality of Patient Care and Nursing Practices, a member of the Women’s Health Council with the Department of Health and a member of the Maryville University Health Care Management Advisory Council.
Rep. Barry is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in St. Louis and DePaul Hospital School of Nursing.
Rep. Barry resides in Oakville with her husband, Philip. They have four children and four grandchildren.
