HCS HB 181 -- TOURISM TAX SPONSOR: Johnson, 47 (Seigfreid) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Local Government by a vote of 15 to 0. This substitute allows the City of Sweet Springs and Marshall to impose, upon voter approval, a room tax of not more than 5% per night. This tax will be in addition to any other tax authorized by law and will be used by the city solely for the promotion of tourism. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will allow Sweet Springs and Marshall to promote tourism. The tax must be approved by voters. Testifying for the bill was Representative Seigfreid.
