Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 252 -- TAMPERING WITH A JUDICIAL OFFICER

SPONSOR:  Byrd

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 18 to 0.

This substitute expands the crime of tampering with a judicial
officer to add family court commissioners, drug court
commissioners, juvenile court officers, mediators and guardians
ad litem appointed by a court to the definition of "judicial
officers."

FISCAL NOTE:  Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that expanding the definition of
"judicial officer" for the crime of tampering with a judicial
officer is necessary to protect those who work in and for the
courts.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Shoemaker (8).

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
