HCS HB 271 -- PUBLIC EMPLOYEE MILITARY LEAVE SPONSOR: Shoemaker (8) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs by a vote of 15 to 1. This substitute requires that all state employees who engage in the authorized performance of United States military service for more than 15 days receive the difference between the employee's regular gross wage and the sum of the employee's gross pay as a member of the National Guard or United States military and the allowances received that month for their service. If the employee's monthly gross pay and allowances as a member of the National Guard or United States military exceed the employee's regular gross monthly wage, the employee will not receive a payment. FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will help state employees who serve in the military during times of emergency. Testifying for the bill were Representative Merideth; Office of the Missouri Adjutant General; Missouri Association of Veteran Organizations; and Joseph Thompson.
