HB 388 -- GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS CO-SPONSORS: Riback Wilson (25), Graham, Hobbs, Harris (23), Shoemyer (9) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Local Government by a vote of 14 to 0. This bill extends authority to develop geographic information systems to St. Joseph, Columbia, Lee's Summit, and all first classification counties without a charter form of government. Under current law, only Springfield and Greene County have the ability to develop geographical information systems and to charge for the use of the systems. Geographical information systems link maps with other data about an area. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will allow equity between counties in regards to establishing a geographical information system. Many first classification counties would like to establish a system. The bill only gives counties the authority to establish the system. Testifying for the bill were Representative Riback Wilson (25); and Boone County Commission. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
