HB 594 -- DISSOLUTION OF ROAD DISTRICTS CO-SPONSORS: Emery, Stevenson, Hunter, Schlottach, Richard COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Transportation and Motor Vehicles by a vote of 20 to 0. This bill establishes the procedures for disincorporation of a road district in Jasper County. To disincorporate, a petition signed by at least 50 registered voters of the county must be filed with the county clerk. The petition must be submitted to the clerk at least eight weeks prior to a countywide election. The county clerk must certify the question to be put before the voters. The county commission will be required to disincorporate a road district if a majority of the voters voting on the question are in favor of the proposition. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say the bill establishes a procedure to terminate a special road district. Testifying for the bill was Representative Emery.
