HCS HB 614 -- INTERMEDIATE DRIVER'S LICENSE SPONSOR: Crawford COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Transportation and Motor Vehicles by a vote of 20 to 0. This substitute allows the Director of the Department of Revenue to promulgate rules necessary to facilitate the early renewal of an intermediate driver's license. Early renewals cannot be completed more than seven days prior to the applicant's eighteenth birthday. An intermediate driver's license will remain valid for five business days after an expiration date if the license expires on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday. FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the time frame must be extended for holders of an intermediate driver's license to obtain a driver's license taking weekends and holidays into consideration. Testifying for the bill were Representative Bivins; and Department of Revenue. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
