HB 74 -- UNEMPLOYMENT FOR INDIAN TRIBES CO-SPONSORS: St. Onge, Hanaway, Bearden, Hunter, May, Fares, Byrd COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Workforce Development and Workplace Safety by a vote of 16 to 0. This bill requires Indian tribes acting as employers to contribute, or make payments in lieu of contributions, to the state Unemployment Compensation Trust Fund like any other employer. The bill contains an emergency clause. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is federally mandated language that is needed to bring Missouri labor law into compliance with federal law. Failure to pass the bill will result in the loss of federal funding, which would be detrimental to the state, employers, and employees. Testifying for the bill were Representative St. Onge; National Federation of Independent Businesses; Missouri Chamber of Commerce; Associated Industries of Missouri; and Division of Employment Security. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Mark Pioli, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
