Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 200 -- Death Penalty

Co-Sponsors:  Johnson (47), Villa, Deeken, Fraser, Sander

This bill requires that defendants found guilty of murder in the
first degree must be sentenced to life in prison without parole
if the jury fails to vote unanimously for the death penalty.
Current law allows the judge to sentence the defendant to death
when the jury is unable to agree upon a sentence of death or life
in prison without parole.
