Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 225 -- Health Insurance

Sponsor:  Luetkemeyer

This bill makes changes in the law governing community-based
health maintenance organizations. Under current law, these
health carriers must maintain a network of providers that is
sufficient in number and type of provider so that all enrollees
to the plan have access to health care without unreasonable
delay. Health carriers must submit to the Department of
Insurance a detailed access plan that demonstrates its ability to
provide the proper access to health care. The bill declares that
an access plan will be deemed adequate if it:

(1)  Is a Medicare + Choice coordinated care plan;

(2) Is being offered by a health carrier accredited by the
National Committee for Quality Assurance; or

(3) Has been accredited by the Joint Commission on the
Accreditation of Health Organizations.
