Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 276 -- Corporal Punishment

Co-Sponsors: Fraser, Riback Wilson (25), Donnelly, Yaeger,
Jolly, Walker

This bill prohibits corporal punishment in any school district in
the state and deletes the requirement that a school district's
written discipline policy include procedures for the use of
corporal punishment. A declaration that spanking by certificated
personnel in accordance with written board policy is not child
abuse is repealed, as are abuse investigation procedures for
abuse allegations stemming from spanking. Investigation of child
abuse charges against school personnel that do not stem from the
administration of corporal punishment remain the same.
