Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 417 -- Assault

Co-Sponsors:  Mayer, Davis (122), Jetton, May, Kingery, Wallace,
Bough

This bill creates the crime of assault of an athletic event
participant.  The crime is a class D felony if the person attacks
an athletic event participant and:

(1)  Attempts to cause or knowingly causes physical injury by
means of a deadly weapon;

(2)  Recklessly causes serious physical injury; or

(3)  Negligently causes physical injury while under the influence
of drugs or alcohol.

The crime is a class A misdemeanor if the person attacks an
athletic event participant and:

(1)  Attempts to cause or recklessly causes physical injury;

(2)  Negligently causes physical injury by means of a deadly
weapon;

(3)  Purposely places a participant in apprehension of immediate
physical injury;

(4)  Recklessly engages in conduct creating a grave risk of death
or serious injury; or

(5)  Knowingly causes or attempts to cause physical contact with
a participant without the consent of the participant.
