HB 558 -- Task Force on Alternative Sentencing Co-Sponsors: El-Amin, Hoskins, Sander, Wildberger, Brooks, Hubbard, Walker, Cooper (155), Johnson (61), Wilson (42), Thompson This bill establishes a Task Force on Alternative Sentencing. The task force will examine the use of public-private partnerships, job training, job placement, and alcohol and drug rehabilitation to create alternatives to the incarceration of non-violent offenders. The task force will meet at least quarterly and must submit its recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly by December 31, 2004. The task force will include the directors of the Department of Corrections and the Division of Probation and Parole, six probation and parole officers, an official from the Department of Economic Development, a judge, representatives of three large employers, and two individuals who have successfully completed probation.
