HB 602 -- Salary Supplements for Teachers in Priority Schools

Sponsor: Schoemehl

This bill authorizes the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education to create a program to provide salary supplement grants
to priority schools that employ high quality teachers. A
full-time teacher who qualifies may receive a supplement of
$3,000 a year for no more than four years. The department will
establish what constitutes high quality through administrative
rule. A national board-certified teacher will be recognized as
meeting the standards for high quality. Eligibility criteria may
include grade point average, standardized test scores, and
recommendations. Students in Missouri's teacher preparation
programs and current teachers may qualify for a high quality
designation.
