HB 727 -- Housemovers Co-Sponsors: Crawford, Viebrock This bill makes several revisions relating to regulation of housemovers by the Highways and Transportation Commission. All housemovers are required to have a valid housemovers license issued by the commission. To be eligible for a license, a person must be at least 21 years old and have a valid class A commercial driver's license. Housemovers must have a certificate of issuance in an amount established by rule by the Department of Transportation but not less than $500,000. An additional $100,000, instead of the current $50,000 bond, must be filed by an applicant with the department to cover any property damage arising from the movement of a house. Application for a special permit to move a house must be made at least two weeks prior to the date of movement. Currently, the time period is two days. In case of an emergency, an alternate route may be followed if directed by a peace officer certificated by the Director of the Department of Public Safety or by the Chief Engineer of the Department of Transportation. The bill also contains language on voiding a permit.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
