         Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., celebrates "Delta Days" for the state of Missouri on the third Monday and Tuesday of February of each year at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City; and

            Whereas, since 1989, more than 650 Deltas from approximately 200 congressional districts in thirty-six states and the District of Columbia have convened in Washington, D.C., for the annual Delta Days in the Nation's Capitol where members attend briefing sessions that focus on the development of strategies for addressing issues at the federal, state, and local levels; and

            Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta received its Certificate of Incorporation on February 18, 1913, since which time it has grown to more than 200,000 members in 850 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, Haiti, Republic of Panama, England, Germany, Liberia, Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Japan, Republic of Korea, and the Bahamas; and

            Whereas, since its inception in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta has clearly established itself as a public service organization that strives to confront the problems of African Americans as well as all Americans through a variety of programs addressing the issues of education, health, international development, and strengthening the African American family; and

            Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta participates in a wide variety of activities that include projects focusing on Immunization, Senior Medication and Record Tracking, Habitat for Humanity, Breast Cancer Awareness, Clinical Depression Information and Screening, Diabetes Awareness and Screening, Alcohol, Drug Abuse, AIDS, and Delta Academy, a program directed to prepare early adolescent females with a basic education in math, science, and technology; and

            Whereas, in realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service through its Five-Point Program Thrust of Physical and Mental Health, Educational Development, Economic Development, International Awareness and Involvement, and Political Awareness and Involvement:

 

             Now, therefore, be it resolved that the members of the House of Representatives of the Ninety-second General Assembly, First Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, hereby declare the third Monday and Tuesday of February this year and each successive year to be "Delta Days" for the state of Missouri; and

 

            Be it further resolved that this resolution be sent to the Governor for his approval or rejection pursuant to the Missouri Constitution.
