Rep.
Jerry R. King, a Republican, represents Vernon County and part of Bates County
(District 125) in the Missouri House of Representatives.
In
addition to his legislative duties, Rep. King has operated a dairy farm in Butler
since 1957 with his brother-in-law, Ed Steele.
His son Rick joined the family business in 1980 after graduating from
the University of Missouri-Columbia with a master's degree in dairy science.
Rep.
King is a member of the board of directors and past chairman for the Dairy
Farmers of America (DFA) Central Council Div. 3. He also has served as a member of the Missouri State Fair
advisory committee, Kansas City Area Dairy Council executive committee and corporate
board of the United Dairy Association and DFA.
Additionally, he served from 1979 to January 1, 1998, on the Mid-America
Dairyman's board of directors and on the University of Missouri Agriculture
Alumni board of directors.
Rep.
King has served as a judge for both national and international agricultural
competitions. His own awards for
contributions to agriculture and agri-business include the UMC Alumni award
Citation of Merit, Missouri State Fair Dairy Show Family Recognition award and
Man of the Year for the Butler Chamber of Commerce. Other honors include the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Appreciation
award and the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors Man of the Year and Master Breeder
award.
Rep.
King attends the Butler Christian Church, where he has served as an elder,
deacon and chairman of the board.
A
1953 graduate of Adrian High School, Rep. King received a bachelor of science
degree in agriculture in 1957 from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Born
January 7, 1935, in Butler, Rep. King currently resides there with his wife,
Jeanette. They have three children and
five grandchildren.
