HB 1047 -- THIRD CLASS CITIES SPONSOR: Guest COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Local Government by a vote of 17 to 0. This bill allows the city council in certain third class cities to set their salaries by ordinance. Currently, council members receive $100 per year. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the $100 salary limit was established in 1939 and is outdated. The bill will allow third class cities to set the salaries of council members as almost all other municipalities do. Testifying for the bill were Representative Guest; Missouri Municipal League; and City of Cameron. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
