Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1092 -- COUNTY CLERKS

SPONSOR: Deeken

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Elections
by a vote of 11 to 1.

This bill requires an additional $7,500 annual compensation to be
paid to all county clerks for duties performed in compliance with

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

oversee elections; and unlike some county officials, it is a
full-time job. Additionally, the Help America Vote Act of 2002
added many more duties to the county clerk's responsibilities.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Deeken; and County
Clerks Association of Missouri.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

OTHERS: Others testifying on the bill say the last statutory
salary adjustment for county clerks was in 1993.

Others testifying on the bill was Office of the Boone County
Clerk.
