HB 1092 -- COUNTY CLERKS SPONSOR: Deeken COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Elections by a vote of 11 to 1. This bill requires an additional $7,500 annual compensation to be paid to all county clerks for duties performed in compliance with the Help America Vote Act of 2002. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that county clerks do more than just oversee elections; and unlike some county officials, it is a full-time job. Additionally, the Help America Vote Act of 2002 added many more duties to the county clerk's responsibilities. Testifying for the bill were Representative Deeken; and County Clerks Association of Missouri. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. OTHERS: Others testifying on the bill say the last statutory salary adjustment for county clerks was in 1993. Others testifying on the bill was Office of the Boone County Clerk.
