HCS HB 1117 -- ENTERPRISE ZONES SPONSOR: Dempsey (Richard) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Job Creation and Economic Development by a vote of 17 to 2. This substitute requires the Department of Economic Development to designate one enterprise zone that will be partially located in the City of Nixa and partially in the City of Ozark. The substitute requires that enterprise zones designated in Linn and Macon counties be authorized through 2015 and that an enterprise zone be designated in Shelby County. FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is necessary to spur the economies of Nixa and Ozark. The cities are at a disadvantage when it comes to competing with Springfield, which has an enterprise zone. Testifying for the bill were Representative Wasson; and Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
