HCS HB 1128 -- EQUALIZATION OF COUNTY SALARIES

SPONSOR:  Johnson, 47 (Lipke, 157)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government by a vote of 17 to 0.

This substitute allows the salary commission of Cape Girardeau
County in 2004 to determine whether to equalize the base salary
of the county treasurer to an amount not greater than the current
maximum statutory salary for treasurers in counties of the first
classification.

FISCAL NOTE:  Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that Cole County was given a similar
opportunity to equalize the base salaries for all county officers
last year, and Cape Girardeau County only wants to equalize the
base salary for the county treasurer.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Lipke (157).

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
