HCS HB 1146 -- SMALL CLAIMS COURT

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 15 to 1.

This substitute increases from eight to 12 the number of claims a
person may file in small claims court during a calendar year.

FISCAL NOTE:  Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will allow landlords to
pursue without an attorney tenants for unpaid rent, thereby
relieving some of the workload of associate circuit courts.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Stevenson.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
