HCS HB 1209 -- OFFICIAL STATE DINOSAUR SPONSOR: Jetton COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Conservation and Natural Resources by a vote of 18 to 0. This substitute names the Hypsibema missouriensis as the official state dinosaur. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that several other states have a state dinosaur, but the one selected for the bill is special to Missouri. Designating a state dinosaur will have beneficial effects on tourism and education. Testifying for the bill were Representative Jetton; Guy Darrough; Keir and Richard McIntosh; and Eva Dunn, Bollinger County Natural History Museum. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Becky DeNeve, Senior Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
