HB 1217 -- KANSAS CITY POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEM SPONSOR: Johnson (47) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Retirement by a vote of 10 to 0. The Retirement Board of the Kansas City Police Civilian Employees' Retirement System is required to appoint any member as a special consultant if they meet specific criteria which include: (1) a retirement status effective on or before August 28, 2003; (2) receiving retirement benefits; and (3) having applied to the board. The bill requires a funeral benefit of $1,000 to be paid in addition to all other benefits for this member. Proper proof of death is required before the benefit is paid. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill allows retired members of the retirement system to become special consultants. It will provide equity between recently retired members and previously retired members by allowing both to receive a funeral benefit. Testifying for the bill were Representative Smith (118) for Representative Johnson (47); and Jim Pyle, Kansas City Police Retirement System. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Joseph Deering, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
