HB 1247 -- NO-CALL LIST SPONSOR: Cunningham (86) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Communications, Energy and Technology by a vote of 19 to 0. Beginning January 1, 2005, this bill prohibits unsolicited fax transmissions to a residential subscriber who has requested that their number be placed on the No-Call List. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that if you have one phone line in your home that is used for both telephone calls and fax transmissions, you can put the number on the No-Call List and not receive unwanted faxes. However, you cannot put a stand-alone fax number on the list. The bill will allow people to put fax machine numbers on the list to reduce the number of unwanted faxes and save money on paper and toner. Testifying for the bill were Representative Cunningham (86); and Office of Attorney General. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
