Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1319 -- CANDIDATE FILING DATES

SPONSOR: Deeken

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Elections
by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill changes the date by which political subdivisions or
special districts located in Kansas City must notify the public
of candidate filing information from the fifteenth Tuesday to the
sixteenth Tuesday prior to the election.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the filing date was moved last
year because of a holiday, but was moved to a municipal election
date. The date needs to be changed back to the original date.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Deeken; and Office of
Secretary of State.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
